On arriving for the church prayer meeting, this morning (Sat 11 November), we we very sad to discover major damage.
Lots of lead has been stolen from the roof. The thieves managed to disable and smash the roof alarm and lighting.
Even worse the thieves kicked down stone sections of the roof into our Remembrance Garden, desecrating it. This is particularly disgraceful behaviour on Remembrance Day.
St John's would like to say many thanks to our wonderful Fire Brigade who have worked hard to made us watertight.
Please be assured that this incident will not distract us from our ministry of making known the gospel and compassion of Jesus Christ to Elmswell ... it will be business as usual. Our main Remembrance Sunday service is at 10:30am tomorrow - hope to see people there as we remember brave people who gave up so much for us.
