Sunday Services at St John's:

Come and join us - you will be made very welcome

If you're new, remember that everyone at St John's had a first day! Gosh, that sounds like going to school for the first time. No, really, don't feel apprehensive - there's no to need to prepare anything before you come and you will find all dress styles amongst us. Please just come as you are!

What time do we meet together?

On the first and third Sundays in the month we have 2 main services - one at 9:30am and one at 11:00am. Every other week and on special occasions (e.g. Easter or Mother's Day) we have one main service at 10:30am.

Family Church (all age worship) - First Sunday of the month at 9:30am

This is a family friendly service with hymns and songs led by a music group.

It also includes prayers, readings and a child-friendly talk and lasts about 45 minutes, followed by tea, coffee, squash and biscuits. The room at the back is available as a crèche.

Breakfast Church - Third Sunday of the month at 9:30am

This is a lovely, informal service with a light breakfast available beforehand from 9:00am. No need to book!

Worship led by the music group starts at 9:30am. After a couple of songs, those aged 0 to 13 go to our wonderful Children's groups, which are led by a rota of volunteers. The service then consists of a Bible reading and talk, a few prayers and some more worship songs. It should be over by about 10:20, when more tea, coffee, squash and biscuits will be made available. The room at the back is available as a crèche.

Traditional Church - First and Third Sundays of the month at 11:00am

At 11am, there is a more traditional service from The Book of Common Prayer on the first Sunday of the month (this alternates between Morning Prayer and Holy Communion) or Common Worship on the third Sunday of the month. Tea and Coffee are available beforehand from 10:30am.

Main Service with children's groups - All other Sundays of the month at 10:30am

On all of the other Sundays of the month, our Main Service takes place at 10.30am, with a mixture of traditional and contemporary music and worship. Children's groups for those aged 0 to 13 run at the same time. These activities for children are exciting and enjoyable and are led by a rota of volunteers. Again, refreshments are served after the 10.30 service in the meeting room at the back - everyone is very welcome to stay for tea, coffee, squash, chocolate brownies (the best in Suffolk) and biscuits.

8am Communion

At 8am, on the second and fifth Sundays in the month, there is a quiet, reflective service of Holy Communion taken from the Book of Common Prayer. The service lasts for about 40 minutes and includes a short sermon based on readings from the Bible, as well as prayers, but there are no hymns.

There are other services at different times of the month and year, too; you can find more details of our services in the Event Diary section.
